THREADED IMAGES

I have been involved, among others, with what I call “threaded images” since 2012, put on transparent paper and using mix media techniques. A series of images resulted thereby. The images emit the impression of an aquarelle, in part as a result of the overlaid gauze. In other compositions in the series that I pursue to this day, the sewn thread results in a transition between a drawing and the haptic of a relief, or a fine sculpture. A virtual floating, third dimension is created through the free fall of the thread here and there along the sewn line and also results from the transparency of the carrier material. This dimension is amplified by the shadowing of the seams, the compactions of the threads, the applied paste-like colors and by using other materials such as, e.g. plastic etc. (mixed media)

The images are presented in special frames that make possible and even intensify the abovementioned floating effect.

Threadbare

”I am interested in the transition between a drawing and the haptic of a relief or a fine sculpture. The impression of an aquarelle is the result, in part, of the overlaid gauze. A virtual floating third dimension is created through the free fall of the thread here and there along the “sewn line” and also results from the transparency of the carrier material. This third dimension is amplified by the shadowing of the seams and is generated by the compactions of the threads. Added to this is an application of paste-like colors and other materials > mixed-media<. The evanescence in the blink of an eye with the images provides me, by means of a certain softness, with additionally a particular values. using other materials such as, e.g. plastic etc. (mixed media).”

SOULSKIN EXHIBITION

Triptych – Trilogy of the unveiling

I pick up the thread of my story and begin to insert it. The skin is portrayed. By my sewing I sew the skin. Memories and inner images are sewn and are newly sewn.

Apparently disparate parts are newly assembled. There results an anthropomorphic, 3-D surface and relief-like landscape.

I thread the magical, red thread and follow it. Holes are clogged, closed and sewn. Wounds are closed. Much remains threadbare.

Cell-shaped, tunnel-like passages invite “wandering through and continually making the thread of something new possible in the story of the soul skin.

I slip into what was and that which has become new, like into a frock or cape. I leave behind the shell that has become too tight. Translucent spaces and dwellings transit into one another. Openings free-up vision for old and new.

The color RED represents the dynamic process of transformation and healing.

The color BLACK: The dynamic phase is concluded; there remains behind a translucent, dark cocoon.

The color WHITE and silver GREY designate ethereal transitions. Delicate translucence, dissolving itself, changes by compactions and the multilayered in the process of transformation.

TEXT ACCOMPANYING THE TRIPTYCH: MOON PHASES

In my work on the topic of power I have a critical look at the magic and subtle power of signs and symbols. My form selection of haptic, 3-dimensional circles merged in a triptych as the symbol of origin supports my critical look at the topic of power. The three phases of the moon, or also signs of power and force, are arranged in a horizontal row and describe stations of power. I have worked-in different symbols of origin in my signs of power and force. I thereby concentrated on a different symbol of the cross. It is possible to consider my work in a global as well as a personal context.

Work technique: mixed media, textile, synthetics, foamed material, leather, paper, plastic, oil paints, varnish, wire relief: approx. 90 x 90 x 12 cm.
